The Butler Institute of American Art Announces A Special Event and Exhibition

PAUL STANLEY: The Other Side - August 13 – October 8, 2023

Special Preview Day and Opening Reception with Paul Stanley on August 12, 2023

The August 12 grand opening reception with Paul Stanley is a very limited private event but reservations are available through the museum.  The cost is $1,000 for two admitted guests who will also receive one commemorative artwork hand signed by Paul Stanley. Contact The Butler Institute of American Art for details by email only at [email protected]. This is a major fundraiser to assist the Butler with accessibility.

On display, sixteen one-of-a-kind pieces by the KISS front man, PAUL STANLEY, created recently, include new original acrylic paintings and mixed media originals.

Louis Zona, Executive Director says: “Paul Stanley is a figurative artist whose depictions of the human form are empowered by an explosive use of color. But his paintings move beyond the figure and into imaginary worlds where his KISS persona floats through stars, guitars, flags, hearts, and other background imagery enhancing the many approaches to the figure seen the bulk of the work. Stanley is an artist who encourages both order and dissonance in fields of color and form. His work can be viewed as a celebration of our visual universe.”

Stanley designed and created the iconic KISS emblem which remains universally recognized as one of the greatest logos of the 20th century. His artistic and visual input has been and continues to be seen in his designs of KISS album covers, performance stages and apparel.

Stanley has always had a great passion for painting and channels it by creating portraits and abstracts that are emotionally charged compositions. His tremendous success with his artwork has led to an entirely new fan and media presence for the accomplished musician, actor and artist. He maximizes the direct and powerful impact of his paintings through scale, texture, color and simplicity of imagery.

Stanley’s works have been praised by well-known and distinguished art professionals and acquired by fans, celebrities and art collectors worldwide. His works have been coveted by collectors as evidenced by consecutive sell-out art shows with total sales in the tens of millions. Additionally, the artist has been commissioned to create numerous large works that are on exhibition globally.
Paul Stanley is honored to be exhibited at such a prestigious museum, “For me, it takes my breath away. This is a terrific museum. And the first that really championed American artists. So, it will be a group of some of my favorite and best pieces.”

Anyone interested in acquiring one of the artworks that will be displayed at the museum can contact Wentworth Gallery.

The exhibit is open to the public and admission is free starting August 13.

Review: KISS bow out in a blaze of glory with spectacular End of the Road show

By Cheryl Mullin / www.liverpoolecho.co.uk

The elder statesmen of rock spit blood, fire and blistering music on their End of the Road World Tour

As farewell tours go, Kiss' End of the Road World Tour has been an epic one.

Beginning in January 2019, it paused like the rest of the world during the pandemic, and resumed in 2021. The band - who mark their 50th anniversary this year - had predicted they would play their final gig together in early 2023 - then added a further 100 dates to the tour.

Last night, with just 24 gigs left to go, they took to the stage in Manchester, playing to an arena packed out by the Kiss Army - the name given to the band's devoted fans.

I first started listening to Kiss as a teen in the 90s, as they were constantly being cited as influences by my favourite bands. I'll be honest, I didn't immediately get them, but as I've got older, I've really come to love their music.

They were supported by The Wild Things and Skindred, who warmed up the crowd, ensuring that by the time a huge black curtain bearing Kiss' name was raised across the stage, the crowd was fizzing with excitement.

Lights dropping, Gene Simmons' bassy voice booms into the darkness, "You want the best, you got the best. The hottest band in the world ... Kiss." The curtain falls, the first chords of Detroit Rock City ring out and the crowd erupts.

Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer are revealed, descending from the arena's rafters on platforms. The stage behind them is a cacophony of sparks, bangs and flames - it's going to be one hell of a night.

They may all be well into their 60s and 70s, but they prowl and strut the stage like men more than half their age. Paul's platform boots make my feet ache just looking at them, but he confidently glides across the stage like a glittering peacock.

They pause as Paul speaks to the crowd, which is already eating out the palm of his hand. "We're going to play some old ones, some older ones, and some older ones" he jokes, as they break into Shout It Out Loud - accompanied by eyebrow singeing flares from the flame machines.

Deuce and War Machine are next, followed by Heavens on Fire, and I Love it Loud. As the dying chords of the song ring out, Gene is handed a flaming torch which he holds aloft, before spitting flames into the air.

KISS review: Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley's insanely entertaining theatrical extravaganza

KISS O2 review: Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley put on a highly energetic and mesmerising show full of fiery pyrotechnics and panto antics that left us wanting more and more.

By GEORGE SIMPSON / www.express.co.uk

Last night KISS played their 20th and final London concert, in the British capital where they proclaimed all their rock heroes originated from.

Just before 9pm, a giant curtain with the band’s name fell from the ceiling to reveal Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer descending from sci-fi platforms on high, bursting onto a stage engulfed in a flaming fireworks display.

We’ve never seen KISS live before and what might simultaneously be the first and last time was definitely one of the most entertaining gigs we’ve ever witnessed.

These four men may be in their sixties and seventies, but boy do they know how to put on a relentlessly energetic show thanks to their legendary shock rock.

All the more impressive is seeing the band stomping around in their incredible, over-the-top, camp superhero costumes – complete with giant heels and kabuki makeup.
